"Painting is just another way of keeping a diary." - Pablo Picasso (1881-1973)

Sometimes it is so hard to stay motivated to paint, even if you don't feel like it.

I find that I try to go to see a variety of art around the country, or even just to look up different artists. It's a great way to be inspired and check in on what others do too - it's fresh, exciting and very inspirational.

I would suggest that if anyone wants to have a go at painting for the first time, maybe if you feel nervous about suddenly starting a canvas, just play around with some paint in sketch books. Remember, it is all about having fun and enjoying yourself. If it is a subject that interests you and makes you feel passionate, then it's a great starting ground. Trust yourself, remember...'every artist was first an amateur'.

"Creativity creates courage." - Henri Matisse (1869-1954)

Like everyone, we all feel that we 'make mistakes' with our work...but do we?

Maybe no one else would notice anything? You can rework something, but if it stands out to you, surely that must symbolise that you know what you are doing, as something doesn't 'sit right'. I have even painted over canvasses before, or just put them to one side for another day, until the inspiration tells me what to do - many artists have different pieces 'on the go'.

If you don't want to show anyone else your work, or feel uncomfortable by it, then you can keep it for your own eyes - your own personal pleasure.

Be true to your self and have fun.

There is no right or wrong, just what feels good to you. What's more, it is bit of a cliché, but keep practicing! I always tell students that your art is your own personal diary.
